Fundraising Campaign at Disney’s The Lion King
When we found out that Disney’s The Lion King was coming to Ottawa’s National Arts Centre for a four-week run from July 14 to August 7, 2011 we immediateley saw a unique fundraising opportunity. Preliminary discussions with Broadway Across Canada and Disney led to prime orchestra seats reserved for the Gala Night on July 14th. Disney added a donation of $2.00 per seat for a special Matinee performance on August 4, 2011. And to wrap it all up, everyone attending any of the 31 performances will have an opportunity to help bring our Tree of Life to life by buying a “leaf ” to add to it’s bare branches.
The Gala is also meant to recognize and celebrate the dedicated Canadian women, especially those in the Ottawa area, who devote countless hours to bring hope to those in need and to make a difference in their lives.
Proceeds from this fundraising campaign will go to the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign to help Turn the Tide of HIV/AIDS in Africa. Since March 2006, Canadian grandmothers have been raising funds and awareness for their African peers through a wide variety of events, including our daring climb of Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro in October 2007. To date we have raised over $85,000 of the $10 million that has already made its way to over 300 grassroots projects in 15 sub-Saharan countries.
We know that our donors and sponsors are all concerned with the same imperative we are: to ensure that funds raised are used, as much as humanly possible, to support the community-based projects at the frontlines of the AIDS pandemic in sub-Saharan Africa. For this reason, the Kilimanjaro Grannies are deeply appreciative of our sponsors’ generous contributions:
Platinum Sponsors – $1,500
Gold Sponsor – $1,000
Silver Sponsors – $500
