Tree of Life
Only $5.00 to buy a leaf to bring the tree to life!
To provide ongoing opportunities to raise funds and awareness, a symbolic Tree of Life will be on display in the NAC Main Foyer for the entire run of the show from July 14 to August 7, 2011.
Designed and created by students from All Saints Catholic High School, under the guidance of Graham Mastersmith, the tree is a multi media sculpture depicting the history of the people of Africa.
The Aboriginal designs on the roots and trunk of the tree represent the First Peoples and tribes of the African continent. The patterns and colours speak of the past and the foundation upon which modern day Africa is built. Leaves grow from the branches and carry the images of Africans who embody strength of spirit and hope for their country in the face of adversity.
Please help bring the tree to life and buy a leaf for $5.00. Donations will be accepted before each performance and at intermission. Your leaf will incorporate an image of an individual from past or present Africa, a place for your signature, and the knowledge that you can make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.
All proceeds will go towards The Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign and the Stephen Lewis Foundation.
